French Drain

A French drain is a common solution for waterproofing a basement. It’s a trench containing a perforated pipe that redirects surface water and groundwater away from the foundation. This type of drainage system can be an effective way to redirect water.

Interior drainage systems

The least disruptive method is the interior waterproofing approach. Drainage systems installed at the interior addresses hydrostatic pressure, or the pressure of groundwater forcing its way through basement walls. The interior perimeter of the concrete floor is jackhammered and drainage piping is installed, routing water that enters the basement to a sump pump system that actively removes the water. Backup battery-operated sump pumps are often recommended to prevent flooding of the basement during a power outage.
